I am a 40 year resident of San Francisco, living most of that time in Haight Ashbury, up the hill from the proposed Dispensary location at Noe & Market st. As you know, Cafe Flore is a treasured institution in the city of San Francisco, that I have been patronizing since the late 1970<U+2019>s. Terrance Alan saved Flore & now would like to add Flore Dispensary, which will compliment Cafe Flore. This new dispensary would make it very convenient for many Cafe Flore patrons, who also use Cannabis, to shop across the street. As a member of the Brownie Mary Democratic Club, a cannabis oriented political organization, which includes Terrance Alan as a member, I have personally witnessed his commitment, advocacy, compassion for medical patients. Terrance, who is a revered figure for his civic contributions to the SF Entertainment Commission, SF Cannabis Task Force & San Francisco in general would be the perfect owner for this location, as he understands better than most the challenges of catering to the SF Cannabis customer. I am one of the founders of the San Francisco Social Club, @SFSC415. We are active in urging our political leaders to create a fair regulatory environment, encouraging members to buy legally in SF, using social media to inform the SF Cannabis Community & wider public. We want regulators to create a system that empowers business development, based on science, facts, while spreading the benefits of legal cannabis to the general community. And importantly, expand consumers choice in product, consumption, locations. During the last 20 years, when Medical Cannabis was legal, our western neighborhoods have been generally excluded from having Dispensaries. By approving more Dispensaries, giving access to all SF neighborhoods, San Francisco significantly reduces the large irregular Cannabis Market, increases the taxes collected & creates more jobs. The Castro is the spiritual home of the modern medical Cannabis movement tied to the AIDS crisis in San Francisco. Cafe Flore played a crucial role as a meeting place for many activists through the years. It deserves its own Dispensary. The heightened security of this type of business will make the area safer for residents and tourists alike and will bring much needed foot traffic to a stretch of businesses which are often forgotten by locals and overlooked by tourists. This will also help diversify the businesses in the neighborhood which will be an added incentive for people to visit this important retail corridor. My support for this project comes from my personal experience with the principals, watching and sharing in their involvement in the positive connection cannabis had on community ravaged by the crisis of AIDS. I know them by their commitment to an inclusive family, diverse community and City, their hands-on knowledge of operating a small business in San Francisco and positive role in the three-year civic conversation that resulted in the establishment of the Office of Cannabis and the Equity Program of San Francisco. I know about this project because I am in the cannabis industry and work with Terrance Allen and other cannabis industry leaders here in my home town. All of us in the legal cannabis industry are working hard on the transition to a legal and regulated market. We believe this is important for society and that the failed war on drugs created much harm, which we believe the legal industry can largely reverse. However, we are struggling, largely because the black market continues to thrive. This is happening because there is a serious lack of legal access across the state. My partner (Eric Sklar) and I spend a lot of time outside of running our businesses to do a lot of public and grassroots organizing to get the more than 65% of local jurisdictions who continue to ban commercial cannabis activities, to change their ways and issue ordinances to open up applications for business people to procure local licenses. Carly and I reside in Boca Raton, FL and were introduced initially to this project through Co- Founder Aaron Silverman in early 2016. During that time our goal was to find a way to invest into the cannabis space in northern California with the potential of moving there permanently. Knowing our specific investment goals and ideas through our relationship, Aaron personally escorted us around the San Francisco Bay and Oakland areas to visit various investment opportunities including warehouse spaces and existing dispensaries. It was during this visit that we visited the Castro neighborhood. Aaron led us straight to Caf Flore (now re-branded as Flore) where we were introduced to Co-Founder Terrance Alan. After lunch and discussions together at Caf Flore we conveyed our investment ideas and goals to Terrence. He and Aaron explained their idea of the Flore Store and the concept of the expansion of cannabis retail into the Castro Neighborhood. Terrence explained his background and current active presence in the San Francisco cannabis space and it was at that time we knew this was a project we wanted to be a part of. Aaron and Terrance proceeded to take us around the Castro Neighborhood explaining the background of its residents and key figures. As we learned more about Terrance<U+2019>s background in helping those residents of the LBGTQ Community through Cannabis, the more our interest grew in the Flore Store project. At this point the project was still in its infancy. No investors had yet committed, but nevertheless Carly and I very much shared Aaron<U+2019>s and Terrance<U+2019>s vision and soon after our return to our home in Florida we decided to commit as the first investors of Flore. In early 2017 we invested as the first shareholders of Flore. Currently almost 3 years later and while there were certainly ebbs and flows along the way, we never diverted from our faith and trust in Aaron, Terrance, Co-Found Luke Brunner to continue the journey to make our vision a reality. Further, sharing in the positive connection cannabis has had and continues to have on a community ravaged by the crisis of AIDS and other illnesses, this project has brought us such satisfaction having made the right choice. Cannabis retail at 258 Noe will be a positive impact on the surrounding businesses, bringing new and much needed shoppers, add heightened security, offer good paying jobs and give a boost to the commercial diversity of the Upper Market and Castro areas. I want to see 258 Noe Street cannabis retail store open because I have a relative who was addicted to hard drugs and could not get off of them and eventually took his own life a few years back when it was harder to get access to cannabis. I also have a relative who struggled with homosexuality for years causing tons of anxiety. I feel that this project incorporates so many good things and the people involved are serious about keeping the culture of the area alive. Flore in the Castro district represents a place where people can feel comfortable being themselves and a place of community where everyone comes together to feel united. The owners of this store want to uphold these values and incorporate them into this project creating a beautiful thing. This is so much more than a cannabis retail permit and I hope that you can see the full picture of this and the meaning to the whole community. My support for this project comes from my personal experience with the principals, watching and sharing in their involvement in the positive connection cannabis had on community ravaged by the crisis of AIDS. I know them by their commitment to an inclusive family, diverse community and City, their hands-on knowledge of operating a small business in San Francisco and positive role in the three-year civic conversation that resulted in the establishment of the Office of Cannabis and the Equity Program of San Francisco. The store is owned by the equity applicant, Terrance Alan and Focus 415 Capital Investments Group, a small group of investors each with a long history in cannabis, social advocacy, business. The renovations proposed will strip back decades of ugly exterior <U+201C>modernization<U+201D> and sensitively house a modern retail operation inside tastefully updated Victorian era storefront turning the ugly duckling on the block to the graceful swan. My name is JC Walker, I've lived in San Francisco for over 40 years. I was involved with Diet Popstitute & KLUBSTiTUTE in the 1990s when we put on the 1st benefit show for Prop 215. About this time Diet introduced me to Terrance Alan. We were also producing a play I wrote called Rocky Horror Superstar & not having a budget & needing a place to rehearse I contacted Terrance who had a huge warehouse for his restaurant supply business & offered him cheap rent to rehearse in his space. He agreed, made us very welcome & didn't charge us anything. A couple years later I wanted to bring the play back & hopefully raise enough money to produce it better. I didn't really know him well but Terrance had been supportive before & had enjoyed the show so I approached him. I knew he knew more people with money than I did so I hoped he could help connect me with several people who might invest in the show. He told me he really supported queer arts but had never done theater & wanted to learn, so he would produce the whole show. WOW!! He put in lots of time & a whole lot of money & allowed me to put on a better show than I ever envisioned. We ran for over a month at the Victoria & had great reviews & big crowds but the theater reneged on a promise to let us extend the show, they booked in someone else without telling us. As a result Terrance lost a ton of money but still paid the cast a bonus at the end even though all had been performing for free just for the love of performing. Over the years he continued working with the KLUBSTiTUTE KOLLECTiVE as we did various shows & also put on the Virgin Queen and Faux Queen Pageants, which were benefits that raised thousands of dollars for various community charities while he donated all his time. Over the years since he has remained active in his support for the queer community & for San Francisco. I fully support him & his partners in this endeavor as I am sure he will bring the same generosity of spirit & commitment to this project that he has brought to others.
